Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for asthma and allergic rhinitis. It blocks inflammatory leukotrienes that contribute to airway swelling, mucus production, and bronchoconstriction, which can reduce allergy and asthma symptoms but does not provide immediate relief during an acute attack.
